The single most important fact that you need to know about Michael Sands is that he actually once played Space Invaders with the Tony Dorsett. I know, pretty impressive. Oh, and he spent 9 years as a Paratrooper in the Army Reserves and was certified as a Pathfinder, Jumpmaster and an Arabic linguist before doing two tours in Iraq. Clearly, all those skills scream VFX artist, which is the role he currently plays with us now that he has forgotten most of his Arabic and no longer heads up Republic’s anti-terrorist unit (codenamed ‘Truth-paste’). Michael says he loves being a VFX artist because he ‘gets to make something out of nothing’, which, when it comes down to it, is essentially the base theory of advertising.
